Introduction
Who on earth would come up with the title How to be a Christian and Feel Good Sinning? That’s easy: only a man who loves Jesus and likes sinning. Yes, only a man who doesn’t mind people calling him a heretic, a back-slider, infidel or apostate would even dare to say something like that to other Christians or spiritually minded people. With that being said, if I were you I close this book right now and take it back to wherever you got it because the things I’ll be talking about are not for the faint of heart. This won’t be the run of mill inspirational Christian book and the language in it may be a little too coarse, too worldly for you. Nevertheless, I believe true Christians are real people. That is to say, when a real Christian stubs his toe he might say, “Damn! That hurt!” They don’t say, “Gee, golly, that’s smart!” As for me, I believe in coming straight down the middle with fastballs, no change ups or off speed pitches, no walking the batter. You are the batter. Needless to say, I know that some of the information in this book might throw some of you for a loop. Not only is my language rather crude at times, but some of my assertions may shock you and challenge your core Christian beliefs. Thus, for many of you, you may find this book hard to stomach.
At this point I can’t help but reflect back to a few years ago when my wife and I were watching one of my favorite television evangelist. I believe he was teaching on the sanctity of marriage and the marriage relationship. The subject of oral sex came up. He was dead set against oral sex and saw it as some kind of perverted thing he use to engaged in before he got saved and married a ‘real’ Christian woman. I sat there and listen to him for a few minutes, and then let out a hearty chuckle. “I don’t know what the hell you talking about bubba,” I said, (of course, bubba wasn’t his real name), “but I like my blowjobs,” I was laughing hysterically and my wife was laughing right along with me. “Maybe that’s what’s wrong with you,” I continued, still looking at the television screen. “You probably need a shot. Maybe then you wouldn’t be so uptight.” I was being just as ornery and belligerent as I wanted to be. It was all so damn funny.
I don’t mean to make light of other peoples beliefs, but that’s exactly what this television preacher was teaching…his own belief. There were no Scriptures to back up his belief though he tried with all his might to find some that would support his position. Of course there were none. He was doing nothing more than trying the old ‘pull a rabbit out of his hat’ routine. As we sat there watching him I couldn’t help but think that more than half the members sitting in the pews of his church that Sunday morning were thinking the same thing as I was: “Speak for yourself bubba. I’m not giving up my goodies. Don’t listen to him honey.” It’s probably safe to say that most of the people watching his television program on the Christian network let his comments float by them like cigarette smoke in a crowed musty bar room.
How to be a Christian and Feel Good Sinning is about examining ourselves and our beliefs. It’s about taking a
serious look at why we believe what we believe and whether or not we should believe anything at all. It’s about taking a serious look at our faith, at Jesus and our own concepts about God. I don’t believe in sugarcoating anything. There are no sacred cows and I have already warned you my language will be coarse at times, and make no mistakes about it—I will kick over your sacred cows. That’s because I believe you are the sacred. This means nothing is off limits in our discussion; your scriptures, your priests and prophets and your beliefs are all open to investigation. Every thing in this physical reality is to be investigated—not by me, but by you. It is my belief that the only way a person can actually know the real Jesus is by understanding and knowing the real him or her. This may sound like some metaphysical new age mumbo jumbo but I assure you it’s not. And I’ll, or better yet, you, will prove it to yourself. You will test the Scriptures by the Scriptures, your beliefs against facts, what is, against what is not. And as such you will become you own authority, your own guru with the ability to stand on your own two feet without being pressured to believe anything that comes across a pulpit. Perhaps the hardest thing in the world is question why we believe what we believe. But we must do so. From this point forward question everything and believe nothing. That includes anything I say in this book. Investigate my words. If anything I say begins to resonate with you, go with it. If anything I say frightens you, go with that too. There is a reason for any and every emotional charge you will get while reading this book. Look for the meaning behind the emotion.
Now, you’d better be up to the challenge because we’re going to start off with the no holds barred.
We’re going right to the heart of our Christian faith by looking at the most crucial story surrounding our faith: The resurrection story....
